Last March, the European Commission published the long-awaited ‘Transition pathway for construction’, a document that aims to guide the ecosystem towards a resilient, competitive, greener and more digital future, while addressing challenges such as the climate emergency and the need for safe and affordable buildings and infrastructure.

Planning the future of construction does not only mean establishing new actions and commitments, but also aligning efforts and identifying and filling current gaps, paying attention to the coherence, implementation and success of policies announced to date.

In recent years, the Commission and national governments have launched numerous initiatives that had and are currently having an impact on buildings and the built environment. To date, many goals have been defined for a functional and forward-looking transformation of the built environment, but few indicators exist to determine how the building ecosystem should evolve to achieve these goals.

ISTeA’s annual conference will therefore be an opportunity to think again about strategies and methods to support the production and management of the built environment that effectively meet, interpret and support the challenge of green and digital transitions, combining development, skills and respect for ecosystems. In line with the EU Commission’s Strategic Foresight Report 2022, strategies to strengthen the opportunities and reduce the risks associated with the necessary interaction between the two transitions will also be discussed.
